Comment on GMAT Geometry Strategies - Part II

Amazing video. Helped a great deal

sir i am having doubt in this question
A square wooden plaque has a square brass inlay in the center, leaving a wooden strip of uniform width around the brass square. If the ratio of the brass area to the wooden area is 25 to 39, which of the following could be the width, in inches, of the wooden strip?

I. 1
II. 3
III. 4

(A) I only
(B) II only
(C) I and II only
(D) I and III only
(E) I, II , and III

Brent,

Could you help me with the follow exercises from OG17, please?
#90
#329
#385

The exercise #362 I did not understand why the answer is not C?

Thanks,
Pedro

Brent,

Thanks you. So, about the distance formula, do you have any lesson in this module that you explain it?

About the question #329 is not the same that I have in my OG17 Book, the question I have here is:

A tank is filled with gasoline to a depth of exactly 2 feet. The tank is a cylinder resting horizontally on its side, with its circular ends oriented vertically. The inside of the tank is exactly 6 feet long. What is the volume of the gasoline in the tank?
1) The inside of the tank is exactly 4 feet in diameter.
2) The top surface of the gasoline forms a rectangle that has an area of 24 squarte feet.

If you have your solution, could you send me here, please?

Thanks,
Pedro

Hi Pedro,

My mistake. I gave you the link for question #339, not question #329.

As for the solution to question #329, you'll find that Mitch has two different approaches (along with a nice diagram) here: http://www.beatthegmat.com/og-16-data-sufficiency-question-86-t294596.html

If you have any questions about his approaches, let me know.

Here's our video on finding the distance between two points on the x-y plane: https://www.gmatprepnow.com/module/gmat-algebra-and-equation-solving/vid...

Hey Brent,

Considering this Q:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/in-the-figure-shown-if-the-area-of-the-shaded-region-is-3-times-216757.html

If the radius of a circle is twice, the perimeter will ALWAYS be twice as well?

and also, if the radius is twice, the Area will be three times? Or that just happened in the case of this part. Q?

Thanks,

Philipp

Question link: https://gmatclub.com/forum/in-the-figure-shown-if-the-area-of-the-shaded...

If the radius of circle A is TWICE the radius of circle B, then:
- The PERIMETER (aka circumference) of circle A will be TWICE the perimeter of circle B
- The AREA of circle A will be FOUR TIMES the area of circle B

Cheers,
Brent

Hi Brent,

Are there lessons on coordinate geometry in this course? I was unable to fund them
gmat-admin's picture

I placed all of the coordinate geometry lessons in the Algebra and Equation-Solving module (https://www.gmatprepnow.com/module/gmat-algebra-and-equation-solving), since coordinate geometry is basically a way to represent solutions to equations.

Those lessons are covered in videos #43 to #54.

Hi Brent,

Can you solve this question - https://gmatclub.com/forum/in-the-figure-above-abcd-is-a-square-and-the-two-diagonal-lines-divi-148661.html

https://gmatclub.com/forum/what-is-the-area-of-abcde-315830.html

for this question I actually forgot the formula so I calculated 1:sqrt(3):2 and then im able to solve the answer

Question link: https://gmatclub.com/forum/what-is-the-area-of-abcde-315830.html

It sounds like you're dividing the region into two 30-60-90 triangles and one rectangle.
If so, that approach works as well
