Comment on Powderville Ski Resort

Hi Brent,

Is the following sentence correct?:

1)In addition to having more ski runs than those of Big Snow Resort, Powderville has longer runs than those of Big Snow Resort

2)In addition to having more ski runs than Big Snow Resort, Powderville has longer runs than those of Big Snow Resort

If not what is the problem,

Thank you in advance,

1) In addition to having more ski runs than THOSE of Big Snow Resort, Powderville has longer runs than those of Big Snow Resort
In the sentence THOSE refers to the SKI RUNS at Big Snow Resort.
So the sentence is really saying "In addition to having more ski runs than the SKI RUNS at Big Snow Resort,..."
This doesn't make any sense.
We are saying that the SKI RUNS at Big Snow Resort have more ski runs than the other place has.

Sentence #2 is fine.
We could also write "In addition to having more ski runs than Big Snow Resort HAS, Powderville has longer runs than those of Big Snow Resort

Cheers,
Brent

Cant the second part of the sentence be like the example given earlier.

Susie can swim faster than Rita.

You're absolutely correct. I edited my response above.
Thanks for catching that!

So does that mean, option C is correct?
gmat-admin's picture

Answer choice C is incorrect because it suggests that Powderville's runs are longer than Big Snow Resort.

In other words, the Big Snow Resort (not its runs) has a certain length, and Powderville's RUNS are longer than that length.
