So, I did:
N + 14 = 2C
0.5N + 7 = C ---1
Then,
0.8N = C + 0.2N
0.6N = C = 0.5N + 7
0.1N = 7
N = 70.
0.6(70) = C
42 = C
42 + 70 = 112 (Not as long in actual scenario though)

A slightly faster approach may be testing with slight modification of the original equation.
N = 2C - 14
Since we need N + C, add C to both sides
N + C = 3C - 14
(N + C + 14) / 3 = C
Since number of CDs cannot be a fraction, Look for the sum that is divisible by 3 without a remainder.
The answer is D.
